I never really thought I was the marrying type. I thought that being married was an antiquated concept. I did not want to get married when so many of my gay friends were not able to. I thought it was kind of a pointless celebration and silly ritual. I was also afraid that my freedom would be taken away. According to the Merriam-Webster Dictionary, the definition of joy is “the emotion evoked by well-being, success, or good fortune or by the prospect of possessing what one desires.” At first glance, joy seems like something that we would LOVE to experience, but this is not always how it works. Instead, being joyful can evoke feelings of inadequacy, scarcity, and fear. If we are truly experiencing the joy that we want, it might get taken away from us, right?
