Movement through Suffering

Apr 10 2013

When I did not even really know who the Dalai Lama was—and really I still do not: I am NOT an expert in Buddhism—or any religion for that matter—- OR history: soooo many things, but anyway, I had this very vague outline/understanding that he, His Holiness the Dalai Lama,  was a positive entity who stood for peace and wisdom.  So, yes—energetically speaking: I knew who he was…One day I stumbled across this quote by him.  I do not have the exact quote but I can offer you an honest paraphrase of it: Every creature—even an insect—is afraid of suffering. It was this statement that created space for me to really forgive other people who I felt had mistreated me. It allowed me to make sense of suffering and see that it happened because people were so afraid of suffering and…

Coughing in the Winds of Change

Mar 26 2013

What I am finding is sometimes we are  often afraid of our magnificence. I know that this used to be true for me. If I were to be the “best version of myself”—as contrived and inauthentic as that might sound, then I might have to change. And really, who likes change? Not very many of us get up in the morning excited to change. It is often quite the opposite. We may not want to change because we have become comfortable and familiar with the “the way things are.” We accept being unhappy as “the norm” and we tell ourselves that our dreams are silly and unrealistic. And all the while, we either become numb to this reality or we begin to feel pained by what we do not have. Recently, this expression came into my experience: We are comfortable with…

A ‘Meaty’ Decision

Mar 14 2013

I have been vegetarian for the past three years. This was one of the main choices through which I have always deemed as being wise and in the highest good of all beings everywhere. I did not cast judgement on others for eating meat—at least not in an aggressive way—but for myself, I could not justify the thought of flesh rotting inside my body or the thought of cows crying before they were slaughtered. I also believed it was the smallest—and by smallest, I mean easiest—contribution I could make to healing our planet. For the last three years, I have totally thrown myself into vegetarian and vegan cooking. I have enjoyed learning about nutrition from a vegetarian and vegan perspective. I loved how great I felt physically. I really did not feel like my choice to have a meat-free life…

Who is your Wise Sage?

Mar 10 2013

Every single one of us has our own personal Wise Sage. This is our inner wisdom. This is the voice and teacher that lives within us! When we are connected with our Wise Sage, we are able to make decisions that are grounded in love! This manifestation of love allows us to reclaim our lives! Some of us are connected with our Wise Sage, but many of us are not. We may make decisions that are grounded in fear or we trick ourselves into believing that we are not good enough to follow our dreams or create our life according to our heart’s vision. But when we are connected to our Wise Sage, listen to our heart’s wisdom, and take action on this wisdom, we are able to make decisions that align to the consequences we desire. Bottom line:…

3 Words Removed with 3 Words Restored

Mar 04 2013

There are three words that always seem to create this rebellious urge in me. When I hear them, I totally want to flip everyone off and yell! OK, so maybe I am being a bit dramatic and exaggerating just a tad—And yes, I realize that this may not sound very “spiritual,” but you know what? I am totally OK with that! Why? Because so many of our little social customs that we were forced to conform to growing up make absolutely NO SENSE! And this insight and willingness to express this comes from a place of LOVE! Without fear, I choose to shed light on these ridiculous customs! The whole matter of doing things because “this is how it is” or “this is always how things has been done” really ignites something in me! As does this matter of really…

Being Opinionated VS Being Judgmental: My Opinion

Feb 21 2013

Having an opinion is NOT the same as being judgmental. Forming an opinion comes through practicing introspection and discernment. It allows me to check in with me on where I am on certain issues. Whenever I take a strong stance on something, I scan the opinion for judgment. Before we continue, let’s define judgment and how it relates to forming opinions. Judgment really supports us in being aware of how we choose to view the world. If something seems “wrong” to us then we are judging it as such. We can then choose NOT to accept what the other person’s opinion is offering us. When I go into judgment—as we all do, I first acknowledge that I have had a strong reaction to something. This tells me that either I am in full agreement or absolute disagreement. I know this…
